About Us

jlivi and the party chicago brass band funk soul music
J-Livi & The Party is a Chicago-based brass band that focuses on playing nothing but funk and hip-hop. We are heavily influenced by artists who are native to Chicago – any artist of renown from our fair city has influenced The Party (in some ways personally), from Earth, Wind & Fire right on up through Kanye West. Our song list includes tunes by Chicago, EWF, Jean Knight, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, CeeLo Green, Kanye, and Macklemore. J-Livi and the Party is a Pep Band on steroids: our goal is to make every performance a party atmosphere while maintaining the highest level of musicianship. Our band can PARTY, and we’re the loudest and baddest band in town! We can’t wait to play for (and party with) you!

Meet The Band

Jeff Livorsi (J-Livi)

Sitting in a hotel room at 5am, when the best ideas happen and while on the road with the DePaul Screamin’ Demon Pep Band, Jeff was discussing his future in music with Corbin Andrick and the DePaul Dance Team. It was then that Corbin had the idea for Jeff to start a brass band and name it “J-Livi & The Party.” This was before they even had music written or members in the band. The creation of J-Livi & The Party happened quickly and within 6 months they had a record out and were playing their first show. Although Jeff is the main arranger, he could not have started the band without the help of Jeff Schweitzer, Bryant Scott, Joe Clark, Dominic Marino and Jeff Kienstra. Those fine gentleman have offered their brass band arrangements to allow J-Livi & the Party to bring the party to every show and/or private event.

Alex Wasily

Alex “A-Waz” Wasily is J-Livi’s right hand man on trombone. Alex has called Chicago home since 2009 after studying at the DePaul Music School with J-Livi and multiple members of The Party. Alex started playing music in 2002 on saxophone but found himself picking up trombone in 2005 with big dreams of playing funk, soul, jazz, hip-hop, and R&B. Always down to play loud, high, and fast, J-Livi and The Party is one of Alex’s favorite bands to play with in Chicago. It’s hard to take the smile off of Alex’s face when this band is around!

Originally from the north suburbs, he decided to come to Chicago to pursue an undergraduate degree in music education at DePaul University and also to use the city’s music scene to further his development. Their biggest claim to fame collaboration is playing together in the house band for the Chicago Gospel Awards.

These led to performances with Jeff Hamilton, Phil Woods, Tim Ries, Denis DiBlasio, Ira Sullivan, John Fedchock, Randy Brecker, and Jimmy Heath.
